The brazilian partners of the Javalambre Physics of the Accelerated Universe Astrophysical Survey (J-PAS) collaboration, will put an identical replica of the OAJ JAST80 telescope of the Observatorio Astrofísico de Javalambre (CEFCA's observatory) in the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO), in Chile.

The brazilian partners of the Javalambre Physics of the Accelerated Universe Astrophysical Survey (J-PAS) collaboration, will put an identical replica of the OAJ JAST80 telescope in the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO), in Chile. The J-PAS scientific project is the main motivation for the construction of the OAJ, and the installation of both twin T80 telescopes, T80-North and T80-South, will make it possible for the J-PAS collaboration, including CEFCA, to have access to the whole night sky from both hemispheres.

Since 2010 and during the first half of 2011, the JAST80 telescope, the first telescope that will be soon installed at the Observatorio Astrofísico de Javalambre (OAJ), passed through all the main reviewing and acceptance phases of its technical design. In the meantime, the consortium of brazilian institutions and universities which closely collaborate with CEFCA, decided to put an exact copy of such a telescope in the Southern Hemisphere. With the new southern T80 in mind, the OAJ JAST80 project was re-scheduled so that the two telescopes could be manufactured simultaneously. The manufacturing of the main mechanical parts started in June 2011.
